note
Scheduled domestic passenger airline founded by Victor D. Ortiz de Villate and lawyer Carlos Martinez de la Torre following the deregulation of Peru's airline industry. Company started operations following year using Boeing 727-100s. In 1994, 727s were grounded by authorities and Americana switched to younger 737-200s. In summer 1997 Americana suspended operations due to restructuring efforts. Operations resumed in September using one Boeing 737-200 with cooperation of Faucett Peru but financial difficulties forced airline to shut down in November 1997, this time for good. Company operated dense domestic network, but introduced Lima-Tacna-Cordoba twice weekly charter flights and planned to operate similar flights to Cali and Rio Branco. At its peak, Americana captured 23% of domestic market.
