United Air Carriers Inc. was formed in July 1977 and shared common ownership with United Air Leasing, Concare Aircraft Leasing and air-taxi, Continental Air Transport. ONA was formed on March 10, 1979 and UACI was merged into and ONA May 30, 1979. The primary business of ONA remained aircraft leasing, and it also provided aircraft and crews for subservices to other airlines. In April 1980, ONA received CAB all cargo authority, and then passenger charter authority in December 1981. In early 1983, it received authority to provide scheduled passenger service between the US and several foreign points. In April 1983 it added the operating name "National Airways" to ts certificate, but changed that to "National Airlines" in September. The airline suspended passenger flights in November 1985 and ceased all operations on December 26, 1985 and surrendered its FAA certificate on March 11, 1986. The airline filed for chapter 11 bankruptcy
