Formed by government of Benin as flag carrier of Republic of Benin in 1978. Airline started domestic service in March 1979 using Fokker F27s transfered from Benin Air Force. Later, Air Benin introduced international flights to neighboring countries and Lagos, Niamey, Lome and Ouagadougou were served. In August 1981 airline received its first new aircraft DHC-6 Twin Otter. Airline became TAB Transports Aeriens du Benin.
