Star Airlines operated international passenger charters from its base at Orly Airport. It began operations on December 22, 1995 operating as Star Europe. In late 1996, the airline was acquired by Look Voyages (a subsidiary of Transat AT) and renamed Star Airlines in October 1997. In 2005, Look Voyages' shareholding was acquired by Angel Gate Aviation Ltd of Great Britain (which owned Air Horizons). In February 2006, Avion Group bought all shares of Star Airlines. Then in November, Avion sold the airline to its management which had formed XL Leisure Group, and the airline was renamed XL Airlines France. XL Leisure group went into administration in September 2008, but the French airline continued to operate until September 23, 2019 as the airline was declared insolvent.
