Regional airline operating under Lufthansa Regional brand. Company was founded in 1981 as Interot Air Service as an air taxi service operating for and owned by Haindl Papier company based in Augsburg. Haindl family owned the enterprise until 2004. In 1986 scheduled service is introduced to Dusseldorf using Beech B200 King Air turboprop. In 1989 company became regional airline. In 1990 De Havilland DHC-8 airliner is introduced on its Augsburg - Berlin Tempelhof route. Name changed to Interot Airways. In 1995 Interot Airways becomes member of IATA and one year later name is changed to Augsburg Airways. At this point, airline started to fly on behalf of Lufthansa. In 2004 Cirrus Group lead by Gerd Brandecker purchased the airline from Haindl family. Cirrus Group also owns Cirrus Airlines but Augsburg Airways brand has been preserved. In 2008 ATON Group becomes majority owner of Augsburg Airways. Airline introduced its first jet in 2010 when it took delivery of an Embraer ERJ-195.
