note

SAT Fluggesellschaft founded in Cologne as a charter and aircraft lessor. Operated inclusive-tour jet charter to various Mediterranean destinations in Europe and North Africa. Operations started in September 1978 with a Fokker F-27 Friendship. After reorganisation it became Germania Fluggesellschaft (ST) on June 1, 1986. At this time Germania provided charter service for TUI and Neckermann Reisen travel agencies. After reunification of Germany, Germania moved its headquarters to Berlin in 1992. In 2003 Germania Express brand was introduced to provide scheduled low cost service. Fleet of F100s were acquired for the task. After purchase of stake in dba, all low cost operations were transferred to dba. Airline was in talks with Air Berlin about a merger but the Germania's owners refused the terms of proposed merger. In Summer 2008 Germania re-started scheduled airline service. Currently Pristina, Skopje and Elat are served from Berlin Tegel, Stuttgart and Dusseldorf. Sulaymaniyah and Irbil in Iraq are served on weekly bases from Stockholm, Munich and Dusseldorf. Most of the charter work is done on behalf of Globalis travel agency. Swiss subsidiary Germania Flug was founded in cooperation with Hotelplan. It began operations on March 26, 2015 using the brand name HolidayJet. The HolidayJet branding ended in November 2015, and scheduled services continued using Germania branding. Bulgarian Eagle began operations on August 4, 2017 to provide ACMI services for other carriers, including Germania. Germania carried 4 million passengers in 2018. Germania Fluggesellschaft mbH, Germania Technik Brandenburg Gmb and Germania Flugdienste filed for bankruptcy protection on February 4 2019. All flights ceased at midnight that day. Bulgarian Eagle and Germania Flug Switzerland are not affected by this and continue to operate.
