ESK NE SkyEurope Airlines Relax Slovakia

note

Low cost, no frills concept airline. First of its kind in central Europe. Airline innaugurated its first flight February 13th 2002 from Bratislava to Kosice. It quickly added flights to Prague, Zurich, Munich, Berlin and Milan. In its first summer season flights to Venice, Split and Zadar were operated. All flights originate from its hub in Bratislava. Its base in Bratislava possibly makes room for more service that would lure budget travelers not only from Slovakia, but also from nearby Vienna. Airline operates bus connection between Bratislava and Vienna already. Airline obtained permit to operate from Budapest in the fall 2003. First flights to London and Paris were operated via Bratislava to honor international flight agreements. Despite rapid growth Sky Europe has not been able to turn profit. Over the years various investors gave Sky Europe breath of new life, but profitability did not materialize. In June 2009 Slovak courts gave Sky Europe bankruptcy protection, but airline had to cease operations in September 1 2009 because it ran out of cash. It operated services to more than 20 European cities from bases in Bratislava, Vienna and Prague.
