REA RE Aer Arann Aer Arran Ireland

note

Aer Arann was founded in 1970 to provide an air service linking the Aran Islands with mainland Ireland using two BN-2A Islanders. In 2001, Aer Arann branched out from it's sister company Aer Arann Islands to set up an entirely separate airline, operating under an independent Air Operator's Certificate. The airline grew over the next few years to became Ireland's leading regional airline with more than 600 departures to destinations within Ireland, the UK and France. In January 2010, Aer Arann and Aer Lingus established of a franchise arrangement between the two airlines which saw Aer Arann operate services from Dublin, Cork and Shannon as "Aer Lingus Regional". The Airline filed for voluntary bankruptcy protection in Augsut 2010 (mainly as a consequence of the severe economic downturn in Ireland) but emerged successfully in October 2010 following new investment and a business re-structure. It continued operating as Aer Lingus Regional throughout this period. WA Developments acquired the company in 2013 and changed its corporate name to Stobart Air on 18/03/14 although the airline continues to operate services for Aer Lingus Regional. Stobart ceased operations on June 12th 2021.
