Airline founded by Max Ward to provide air taxi service in Yellowknife, Northwestern Territories. Airline entered transatlantic leisure charter service in 1962 using Douglas DC-6 aircraft. The same year Wardair Ltd. also started operations into Mexico and the Caribbean. Airline received its first jet, a Boeing 727, in April 1966. Airline expanded rapidly in mid-1980s. Wardair Canada also started scheduled transatlantic service in 1986. Large order of Airbus A310s, MD-80s and Fokker F100 was placed at this time which had to be scaled back because the rapid growth was not sustainable financially. Finally in 1989, financially troubled carrier was acquired by Canadian Airlines.
