note

Regional scheduled airline founded by Pat Byrne started operations in January 1994 between London City airport and Dublin. Flights were operated under franchise agreement with Virgin Atlantic, operating as Virgin Cityet, until July 1996 when Virgin elected to launch its own short haul carrier. Cityjet continued to operate flights on its own from Dublin to London (City), Brussels, and Malaga. Near bankruptcy in 1999, investments were made by Air Foyle and Air France, and some flights were operating under a capacity purchase agreement with Air France. The following year, Air France acquired all of the company's shares, which resulted in most of it aircraft operating for Air France. When KLM-Air France acquired VLM, that airline began to operate as VLM-Cityjet, although the two airlines continued to operated separately. In 2013, the Air France CPA was replaced with a code-sharing agreement; its flights were also sold directly through Cityjet. In May 2014 Cityjet was sold to German interests; VLM was sold separately but continued to operate under a CPA with Cityjet. In 2016 Cityjet acquired the Blue1 from SAS and the two airlines merged. The next year, it acquired Cimber Air from SAS, along with its fleet of CRJs. At about this time the airline elected to concentrate on CPA and wet-lease services, reducing its independent flying, which eventually ended in October 2018. Also in 2018 Cityjet merged with Air Nostrum, although the two airlines remain operationally separate.
